FSCC and Ensenta Expand Overseas Financial Services Via Shared Branch Kiosks
March 20, 2008
San Dimas and San Mateo, Calif. – Financial Service Centers Cooperative, Inc. (FSCC) and Ensenta, today announced new technology that allows shared branching members to withdraw currency in Euro and U.S. dollars using self-service kiosks in Germany. Germany is the first country to offer this feature through two shared branch kiosks operated by Service Credit Union in Portsmouth, N.H.
Credit unions in the FSCC network, including Service Credit Union, have been offering traditional shared branch services to members overseas for nearly five years. The expansion to include overseas kiosks capable of handling foreign currency is a breakthrough for FSCC and its many credit unions with overseas branches.
Over 100,000 members of Service Credit Union as well as guest members who visit either kiosk in Germany are able to withdraw from their credit union account in either U.S. dollars or Euros. Service Credit Union largely serves military members and their families. Guest members are the estimated 26 million credit union members that belong to a shared branch network.
"Our ability to provide such a unique service to members internationally is exciting for us as we've explored many channels to bring shared branching overseas," said Sarah Canepa Bang, President/CEO, FSCC. "The ability to dispense Euro and U.S. dollars to our military troops overseas through Service Credit Union reinforces what credit unions stand for; 'People helping People'.
"We are proud that Ensenta's self-service technologies can help our military personnel and their families overseas better manage their finances," said Jim Ballagh, VP Business Development for Ensenta.
One kiosk is located in Landstahl, Germany at a medical center, a primary treatment facility for injured and wounded service members coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan. The other kiosk is located on Ramstein Air Base, the largest NATO air base in Europe. "Service Credit Union serves over 100,000 members around the globe and we continually look to make banking as convenient as possible for our members," said Gordon Simmons, President/CEO of Service Credit Union. "We are pleased with our partnership with FSCC and Ensenta in using the latest technology to increase member access."
Both kiosks in Germany provide shared branch connectivity to tens of thousands of American service members and their families who pass through the medical center and air base each year.
"These new kiosks provide connectivity to patients and staff members alike who can now access their "home town" credit union accounts through shared branching connectivity," added Simmons.
FSCC was the first shared branch network to introduce kiosks with full access financial services. FSCC and Ensenta launched shared branch kiosks across the U.S. in 2005 and continue to work together to provide enhancements to help credit unions service their members internationally.
According to data on www.atmmarketplace.com, Euro dollars were introduced in Germany in 1999 along with several other European countries. The data also notes that most Europeans are frequent kiosk users.
